ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team heads out on the road for contests at McKendree and Illinois Springfield this weekend. The Tritons and Bearcats will tip off at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening and then on Saturday afternoon UMSL will take on the Prairie Stars at 1 p.m.
The Tritons remained unbeaten in GLVC play and extended their overall winning streak to eight with a 75-65 win over Maryville last Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building.
Lexi Hanna scored a career-high 18 points in the victory while
Morgan Ramthun added 14 points and
Jayden Kuper and
Jaeda Wilson finished with 12 points each.
Ramthun is closing in on becoming the 19th player program history to score 1,000 points in a career. She needs just six more points to tie Pat Conley for 18
th all-time. Ramthun has also moved into fourth on the school's all-time rebounding list with 819.
UMSL is ranked No. 25 in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. The Tritons received 32 points and are ranked in the WBCA poll for the first time since February 22, 2022 when they were also ranked 25th.
Thursday's contest pits McKendree, the top scoring team in the GLVC at 75.9 points per game against UMSL whose the top scoring defense in the conference giving up an average of 53.6 points per contest.
The Bearcats enter Thursday evening's contest with a record of 11-6 including 8-3 in the GLVC and have won six of their last seven games. They won both their games last weekend holding on for a 69-63 win at Missouri S&T last Thursday and then beat Lincoln 79-68 on Saturday in Jefferson City.
Baylie Parks leads McKendree in scoring and rebounding this season with 15.3 points and 8.9 boards per outing. She is coming off 34 point, six rebound game against the Blue Tigers and was 15-for-23 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the foul line. Parks has reached double figures in scoring in 13 of her 15 games played this season.
The Prairie Stars enter Thursday's game against Lincoln with a record of 7-11 overall and are hovering around .500 at 4-6 in conference action. UIS had its two-game winning streak snapped in an 81-49 loss at Drury last Thursday.
The Prairie Stars have been good at home this season winning six of 10 games including 4-2 in GLVC play. They're averaging 68.3 points per outing but have given up 66.6 per game and are being outrebounded by 5.5 boards per contest. UIS is second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage knocking down 37 percent of its attempts and is averaging 8.6 threes per outing which leads the league.
The Prairie Stars are led by Kayla Rice at 15.7 points per contest while Julia Mingus is contributing 12.4 points per game and leads the GLVC in three-point field goal percentage at 47.6 percent.
