ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis head men's soccer coach
Dan King has announced his incoming class of nine players for the 2015 season, which includes:
Dominic Barczewski – MF/B (Oakville, Mo./Vianney High School)Barczewski was a second team All-Metro Catholic Conference selection and plays club for Lou Fusz Pike, which won the 2014 state cup championship. His father Dominic was a two-time All-American (1979, 1980) at UMSL, while his sister Brooke played from 2013-14.
Coach King on Barczewski: "Dominic comes from a history of UMSL soccer players and is a very technical player, who can play anywhere on the back line. He is tough into the tackle and is a very good passer of the ball.
Ryan Behnen – B (Oakville, Mo./Vianney High School)Behnen earned First Team All- Metro Catholic Conference honors and Missouri
Soccer Coaches Association Class 4 First Team All-State honors at Vianney. He plays club for Lou Fusz Pike, which won the 2014 state cup championship.
Coach King on Behnen: "Ryan is a very technical player and an excellent passer. He can also play anywhere in the back line and does a great job of directing the back four."
Jack Filla - GK (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North/Lewis & Clark Community College)Filla comes to UMSL from Lewis & Clark Community College, where he was a two-year starter. He helped his team to the program's first national tournament appearance since 1989 and was a two-time Region Goalkeeper of the Year and a two-time first team all-region selection. As a sophomore, he also earned NSCAA Second Team All-America and NSCAA All-North honors. Filla prepped at Fort Zumwalt North where he set a school record with 31 career shutouts. A three-year varsity captain and a two-time team MVP, he was a first team all-conference selection as a senior and a second team honoree as a junior.
Coach King on Filla: "Jack is tall keeper and shot blocker who controls the penalty area very well."
Jake Meyerkord – MF (Florissant, Mo./Christian Brothers College High School)Meyerkord helped CBC to two district titles and the 2012 state championship. He earned First Team All- Metro Catholic Conference honors as a junior and plays for Lou Fusz Pike, which won the 2014 state cup championship.
Coach King on Meyerkord: "Jake is a great offensive player with speed and touch and he is also very solid around the goal."
Connor Ream – B (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic High School)Ream was a two-year starter in the back for St. Dominic and in 2013 helped the Crusaders to an undefeated season and a state championship. He is the younger brother of former Tritons, Patrick (2011-13) and Logan (2010-14).
Coach King on Ream: "Like his brothers, Connor is a hard worker. He plays hard and is a solid defender."
Joe Rund – B (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis University High/University of Alabama-Birmingham)Rund comes to UMSL from NCAA Division I University of Alabama-Birmingham. A three-year starter at Saint Louis University High School, he earned all-state, all-metro, and all-conference honors and was the school's first-ever junior captain.
Coach King on Rund: "Another technical player in the back, Joe sees the field very well and can play center back or wing back,"
Alex Rutledge – MF (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West High School)Rutledge earned Missouri
Soccer Coaches Association Class 4 First Team All-State honors last season and was named the Suburban North Player of the Year. A three-year captain, he was also a three-time First Team All-Suburban North selection and was twice named the team MVP. Rutledge also earned Third Team All-Metro honors and helped Hazelwood West to the 2014 district championship. He plays club for Lou Fusz Pike.
Coach King on Rutledge: "Alex is a versatile player who can play multiple positions and can score."
Aldin Sabotic – MF (Mehlville, Mo./Mehlville High School)Sabotic earned First Team All-Suburban West honors and plays for SLSG Premier White. His older brother, Almin, was a two-time all-GLVC honoree (2010, 2011).
"Aldin is a technical player who sees the field well and can make the killer pass. He knows the game very well."
Anes Suhonjic – GK (Mehlville, Mo./Mehlville High School)Suhonjic plays club for International Soccer Academy.
Coach King on Suhonjic: "Anes is a keeper with good hands who can make the saves when called up on. He also has great technical abilities in the air.
